Hot Industries under a President Obama
As I listened to the presidential debates, I started to think about what will happen to the job market if each of the candidates were elected president. So let’s see which industries will be hot if Barack Obama was elected president. Next week, I will look at the growth industries if John McCain is elected president.
I will start by saying that we are living in troubling economic times and that my observations could be materially affected by certain extraordinary developments.
Senator Obama stated last night that it if every American’s right to receive healthcare and his healthcare plans reflect this focus. As a result, there will be incremental investment in this market. Nursing, hospital and home healthcare workers and insurance healthcare workers are some interesting job opportunities in this industry.
In the campaign rhetoric, there has been a significant amount of discussion on the importance of developing additional sources of energy. The proposals have included expanded drilling for oil, development of clean coal and even nuclear energy, as well as other green energy opportunities. As a result, companies that focus on existing energy and those focused on alternative energy sources will be a great growth possibility.
If the economy continues to be challenging and if Senator Obama raises corporate taxes, there may be a movement by companies away from full-time employees to more flexible temporary staffing. If this occurs, companies that provide consulting and outsourcing services could be desirable. Companies that will be doing additional hiring in the United States should include Manpower and Accenture.
