The Battle of Kindle and iPad Users

Web watcher Nielsen has release some interesting stats on the differences between the owners of Kindles and iPads.  Their findings may be found in full at http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/consumer/the-connected-devices-age-ipads-kindles-smartphones-and-the-connected-consumer/.

Some of the things that I found interesting are:

  • iPads tend to be purchased by a younger people with 63% of them under 35 while Kindles the under 35 crowd represents 47% of their user base.
  • 52% of the owners of Kindles are male while men make up 65% of the owners of iPads.
  • Kindles owners tend to be wealthier.  44% of them make more than $80,000 a year compared to 39% of iPad owners.  Kindle owners also tend to be more educated (27% of them have Master degrees or doctorates.
  • iPad owners are more receptive to advertising on their tablet than owners of other devices and these owners tend to make more purchases than on other devices.
In my family, I own an iPad while my wife owns a Kindle.  Unfortunately, I am older than the average iPad owner and more educated than average user.  I guess my wife is more wealthier than me.
